Prologue or no prologue?

I read some boring ones. I wince when someone says, “I don’t read prologues.”

Writing them can be intimidating but they add to a storyline before it ever really begins. Two of my five novels have them, one has an epilogue. Like at the end of a great movie when the dust settles and characters are picking up the pieces, Jason’s body isn’t where you saw it last.

While the epilogue is at the end, in the novel Persistence of the Damned, the prologue was actually written last. The addition of both boosts a central character in a twisted way.

But so what, no one reads prologues. Here is the prologue for Merchants of Blood. I hope you enjoy it.
